Contents The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation - which houses the ICAO Secretariat attended the ICAO General Assembly and Conference held from 14 to 17 October in Kigali, Rwanda. The NACF delegation led by its chairman Byeong-won Kim joined several meetings and events at Kigali Convention Centre, most notably the Gala Dinner and Rochdale Pioneers Award ceremony and ICAO-CCW (Consumer Cooperatives Worldwide) Joint Parallel Session.

And we are proud to share the news that Mr. Kim received the 2019 Rochdale Award in recognition of his contribution to the cooperative movement at national and global level. The award is given out every two years to an outstanding cooperator (or an organization under special circumstances) and this year, some 20 nominees were recommended. During his acceptance speech, an overwhelmed Mr. Kim said: 쏧 will take this award as a message that I should work harder for farmers around the world.

Earlier on the same day, 16 October, there was a parallel session put together by the ICAO and CCW. Held on the theme of 쏞ontributing to Food Security, and Sustainable Consumption and Production, the session featured 12 speakers from all five continents. To briefly summarize the presentations, those from Europe tended to focus on reducing food waste and protecting the environment while African speakers emphasized the need to raise public awareness of food sustainability on the continent thereby encouraging producers to opt for more environment-friendly production methods.

The next day, the General Assembly the highlight of the week was held with high attendance. There, a number of important decisions were made one of which was the passage of the resolution on raising membership fees in line with inflation. Overall, the whole event was a huge success with the ICA announcing that over 1000 people from 94 countries registered. The next General Assembly was confirmed to be held from 11 to 16 December in Seoul, Korea.
